It's nice to see that our league is growing!!  I was able to capture a couple of pictures of some of our newbies ...

      Kay and Brian Gawlowski
Liz Pratt and Richard McElreath

Next week, we will introduce some of the other new bowlers to you!  Make sure to welcome all those who have joined us and introduce yourselves!

Lorrie has volunteered to coordinate the Christmas Party/Gift Giving event to be held on December 20th.  We ask that each family/individual volunteer to bring in a holiday treat to share.  Julie has the sign-up sheet if you know already what you would like to bring. Also we will be having a Christmas grab bag for the bowlers this year!  All you have to do is bring a "gender neutral" gift to share ($10 limit please)!  If you bring a gift, you get a gift.  Participation is not mandatory, but it can be a lot of fun!!

We could still use a couple of more bowlers to fill out the league.  If you have any friends or family that you think would like bowling with us, have them come and join us!

The sheets are posted.  You can view them by clicking HERE!

You can view the full weekly standing sheet by clicking HERE.

The lanes seemed to be good for many of the bowlers this week!  It seems as though we are all making some good adjustments to these lane conditions and I bet we will see better scores this season.

THANK YOU to everyone for getting your sanction applications filled out and returned to me and for paying up.  We will be turning in our application this week so remember to check your mail frequently for your new card.

There seemed to be a bit of confusion regarding your dues envelopes.  This is an explanation of how your envelopes are being marked ...

WEEK 1 - $34.00 due *$17 for bowling $17 for sanction
WEEK 2 - $34.00 due *$17 each for the last two weeks of bowling
WEEK 3 - $34.00 due *$17 for bowling week 2 & $17 for bowling week 3
WEEKS 4 to 30 - $17.00 due *$17 for each week

The only exception to this will be for those who have sanctioned in another Albany Association league.

If you have any questions or do not understand how we have done this, please speak to Jim Weir.

Once you have completed 9 games, your current average will be used for handicap purposes.  Once you reach 21 completed games, that will be the average used for "Most Improved" bowler prize money.

Since we have 26 bowlers this year, we will be breaking out into 4 divisions to be used for individual prize money.  Based on your average at the end of 30 completed games (typically 10 weeks into the season) you will be placed in your division. Once you have been placed in a division, you will remain there for the rest of the season no matter how your average changes.  There will be prizes for High Average, High Series and High Game in each division.  The divisions will be set as follows:

Division A - averages 180 to 300
Division B - averages 160 to 179
Division C - averages 133 to 159
Division D - averages 0 to 132

If you have any questions about the divisions, please speak to Julie.

First Week a Success!

Turning 50 is an accomplishment - but becoming the Bowler of the Week after you turn 50 is stellar!

Congratulations to TED HUDSON for being this week's top bowler.  Ted shot 233-643 to earn this honor!

The rest of us didn't do all that bad considering some of us haven't even picked up a ball since the end of last season!  Hopefully we will start to post really nice scores in the next few weeks!

At the meeting before we started, Jim spoke to all of us about some things we need to keep in mind this season.  First being our envelopes.  As it has always been, you need to keep your envelope current.  If you get three weeks or more behind at any time during the season, you will not be able to participate in the jackpots that we offer until your envelope is current again.

This year, the pins over jackpot will be $3.00 per night with the person bowling the highest over their average winning that game.  This is run by treasurer Jim Weir.

Ted runs the strike jackpot.  The cost for this is $2.00 per game or $6.00 for the night.  You choose the number of cards by the number of strikes you have in each game.  Best poker hand will win the jackpot for the game. Participation in these jackpot games is optional!

Next, we talked about sanctions.  Now that we are in the Albany USBC Association, our sanction dues are $17.00.  We are asking that you neatly fill out your sanction application cards by Saturday, September 13th and return them to Julie.  You have until the last week of October to have your sanction fee paid.  Most folks got their sanction paid on the first week, which is awesome.

Please be mindful when you take smoke breaks.  Traveling to the smoking areas outside of the bowling center takes a bit longer than at Green Island, so please, if you are going to smoke, make sure you don't make your team or your opponents have to wait excessively for you to finish smoking.  We are trying to make sure that we are finished with the third game by 9:30 p.m. at the latest so we ask that you are prompt getting to the approach when it's your turn.

Another way that we can be sure that we get out on time is to make sure that cell phone use is limited during the games.  Please keep calls short and keep your phones behind the settee area.

We will continue to follow the two-lane courtesy rule when bowling.  Please look both ways when you are up so that you don't find yourself "running up" on the player to your left or right.

We want to welcome our new bowlers and those who have returned after at least a year off.  Introduce yourselves and help all feel comfortable!  Our newest Potbellies are ...
  • Keith and Jacquie Shoen
  • Brian and Kay Gawlowski
  • Bruce Ottmer
  • Richard McElreath
  • Josh Kendall
Ted did have the opportunity to announce "channel" shots on the first night. For all our newest bowlers, that means if you dump it in the gutter, you will be called out.  Don't take it as an insult, have fun with it!!

Pre-bowling will be allowed if you know you will be unable to attend during a regular bowling session.  You must contact your team captain or a league officer to come and watch/verify your scores.  Please let us know if you will be pre-bowling.  You will still be responsible for your regular dues.

I know this is long, but we don't want you to miss anything important!

This will be a fun way to keep in touch with you all.  I will post a direct link on Facebook by Sunday of each week.
