Another week with two sharing the top spots...

Week 16 - End of First Half - December 20, 2014

Congratulations to ED TROICKE and JEFF LIND - both earning Bowler-of-the-Week status with their top notch bowling.  Ed shot 289-777 and Jeff shot 269-704 to earn these honors.

Other top bowlers included: Josh Kendall 230-620, Brian Gawlowski 215, Jack Fitzpatrick 214, Dean Heald 208, Ted Hudson 224-612, Liz Pratt 226-624, Matt Hoyt 252-600, Alice Hudson 183, Lynne Weir 180-514 and Ken Comtois 213-614.

Standings for week 16 can be seen HERE!

Week 17 - December 27, 2014

Two bowlers again this week reached the 700 mark! Congratulations to JOSH KENDALL 268-769 and JEFF LIND 247-701 both earning the Bowler-of-the-Week kudos.

Other top bowlers included: Liz Pratt 213-614, Matt Hoyt 212, Lynne Weir 181-502, Jeanette Wiley 170, Julie Lind 180, Jack Fitzpatrick 205, Jim Wedro 222, Ed Troicke 274-670, Freddie Wedro 166, and Ted Hudson 234-635.

After the games on December 20th, Jim Wedro and his team secured FIRST PLACE for the first half.  Stats for team standings are reset for the next 16 weeks.  We will continue the handicap process of the difference between the two teams bowling each other.  This is the most fair for all teams.

The first night of the second half was quite exciting with Jim Wedro's team players shooting top-notch scores leading them to take all four points from Ted's team.

Standings for Week 17 can be seen HERE!

Two Weeks - Three Top Bowlers!

Jeff poses with long-time friend Liz
after earning Bowler-of-the-Week
for week 14!
We start off with Week 14 - December 6th!

Congratulations to JEFF LIND by earning the Bowler-of-the-Week kudos.  Jeff shot 237-691 to take top honors!

Other top bowlers included: Josh Kendall 202, Ed Troicke 203, Bruce Ottmer 186, Julie Lind 163, Brian Gawlowski 236-594, Jack Fitzpatrick 256-633, Audrey Wright 186-500, Mary Magee 139-391, Freddie Wedro 162-405, Ted Hudson 245-666, Liz Pratt 221 and Matt Hoyt 211.

See the standing sheet HERE for other details on week 14!

WEEK 15 - December 13th...

Ted and Ed shared Bowler-of-the-Week honors
with their scores of 719 (Ted) and 718 (Ed)
and...Ed kept us on our toes
as he shot the first 10 in game three!

Other top bowlers include: Mary Magee 131, Freddie Wedro 157, Dean Heald 220, Brian Gawlowski 221-596, Jack Fitzpatrick 204, Josh Kendall 245-642, Kay Gawlowski 166, Liz Pratt 220-645, Audrey Wright 182, Lynne Weir 199-532, Bruce Ottmer 172 and Ken Comtois 236-634.

The lanes were good for many of our bowlers tonight which is really good for confidence on the lanes.  We have just about completed the first half of our season and most all of us are pleased that we have made the move to Olympic for bowling this year.

Coming up on Saturday - December 20th - we will start bowling at 6:00 pm! This will help us be able to enjoy our dinner, desserts and gifts.  George promises us a great spread!  For this event we are not able to cover beverages to save on money (however, we will provide them at the end of the season) so you are all on your own for that. The plan is to bowl the first game, move to the higher lane numbers for our meal and gift sharing and then go back to finish bowling. Please bring your $5 (and $10 for any guests) to Jim before we start bowling clearly stating that it is for the party (and not jackpots - that goes in a different pocket)!

We hope that everyone participates in the gift exchange - you aren't required to though.  If you bring a gift, you may take a gift.  Everyone will get a number and choose their gift in that order.  We will also allow one steal on your turn only.  It promises to be a good time!

Now, back to business... there was quite an animated discussion again this week about the handicap process.  No matter what percentage we use to handicap, it will most likely end up with the same results.  So it was decided that we would continue to handicap the difference between the teams for this season and evaluate it at the end of the year.  This is the first time we have had a team with such high averages.  It happened only because of the way folks decided that they weren't going to bowl with us this year and how the new bowlers were assigned.  This was the only team that could take the new bowlers. Let's hope that this system will work well for the second half.

Look for the standing sheets for WEEK 15 HERE!!!  See you on Saturday!

Ed Troicke Takes Top Spot Again!

Showing Dad 'da money!

Ed Troicke is sitting in the Bowler-of-the-Week seat again this week.  Ed shot 258-721 for this honor.

Other bowlers topping the charts include: Julie Lind 200, Jim Weir 229, Jack Fitzpatrick 257-654, Jim Wedro 224-624, Jeff Lind 245-641, Lynne Weir 190-512, Freddie Wedro 167, Ted Hudson 219-610, Charlie Magee 201-571, Kay Gawlowski 148, Liz Pratt 212-601, Matt Hoyt 234-632, Rebecca Hoyt 160, and Ken Comtois 211.

Look at all those 600+ series!!! Nice bowling night for quite a few of our bowlers! Congrats to everyone for a great night!

Thanks to all who offered to bring desserts for the Christmas Party on December 20th.  Remember it's just $5 per bowler and $10 per guest.  Kids under 12 are free.

Due to a lot of recent conversations, it was decided that we really needed to change the way we handicap our teams.  Jim Wedro's team is packed average wise, so we have changed the handicapping from 100% of the difference between the team average and 750 to handicapping 100% of the difference between the two teams competing.  Doing it this way, both teams will start off even (ie. with the same team average).  This new handicapping process starts with this week.  No weeks prior will be changed. At the end of the season, we will review this once again.

A reminder for those who may have holiday events on Saturday evenings when you will miss bowling, we encourage you to pre-bowl sometime during the week (or before/after regular league bowling) so that your team will not suffer due to your absence.  If you have any questions about pre-bowling, please see one of the league officers.

That's it for this week.. Check out the standing sheets HERE!!

Two Earn Bowler-of-the-Week Honors!

Brian Gawlowski and Ed Troicke
Congratulations to Ed Troicke and Brian Gawlowski on earning the first "dual" Bowler-of-the-Week kudos!
Ed shot 245-712 and Brian shot 247-705! Excellent bowling!

Other top bowlers include: Matt Hoyt 200, Lynne Weir 202-553, Jim Wedro 200, Josh Kendall 253-695, Jeanette Wiley 155, Ken Comtois 242, Mary Magee 133, Freddie Wedro 188, Dean Heald 210 and Ted Hudson 214.

There was excitement on the lanes tonight as we watched two of our bowlers crush the pocket over and over again!  Thanks to Brian's skill, Jack's team swept Matt's team moving them just one point from first place.  The combination of Ed, Josh and Jim, they managed to sweep Lynne's team to take the first place spot!  Ken's team squeaked out a point from Ted's team but wasn't enough to move them out of the sixth place spot.

To see the standing sheets for Week #12, please click HERE

We will be discussing a change in the handicap system for the second half hoping to make it a little more challenging for Jim Wedro's team to compete with the rest of the league.  Due to the luck of the draw with folks leaving the league at the beginning of the season, Jim's team is a little overloaded in the average department and we are trying to make it a little more fair for the other five teams to compete against them.  This meeting will be within the next few weeks.

Lastly, we wish you and your family a happy and healthy Thanksgiving!

Ed Does It Again - Bowler-of-the-Week!

Ed Troicke

Congratulations to ED TROICKE

Bowler of the Week
267-733!

Other top bowlers include: Ken Comtois 241-667, Josh Kendall 221-610, Charlie Magee 186, Kay Gawlowski 145, Liz Pratt 222-621, Matt Hoyt 226-613, Mary Magee 146, Dean Heald 214, Ted Hudson 230-627, Brian Gawlowski 208, Audrey Wright 190-504, Lorrie McLaughlin 220-518, and Lynne Weir 186-519.

Lots of nice scores shot on Saturday night!  Quite a few 600 series!  Congrats to all who had some really nice scores!

Team standings are making some movement with only 7 weeks left in the first half.  Jim Wedro's Team swept again this week moving them into the first place spot and tied with Lynne's Team who swept their opponents as well. Ted's Team took three from Matt's Team but didn't move them up all that much.  The points are adding up ... who will get that first place finish this half?

We are all going to start to be busy with family and friends holiday events.  If at all possible, please pre-bowl for the night that you will be missing. It helps to keep the teams competitive during this busy season.

Speaking of the holidays, we will be celebrating on the 20th of December.  I will have a sign up sheet for those wishing to bring sweet dessert types of goodies for that night.  We cannot bring in "food" types of dishes, so please keep it to cookies, candies, cakes, etc.  The cost for the "party" will be $5 per bowler $10 per guest.  The rest of the food will be covered by 50/50 drawing proceeds.

We will be having a gift exchange that night as well.  Please bring a gender neutral gift of at least $10.  You are not required to participate in this.  If you bring a gift, you get a gift.  It is a lot of fun and we hope to make this a yearly tradition!

All the standings for week 11 are posted and you can see them by clicking HERE!

Way To Go Ted Hudson!! Bowler of the Week with 724!

Ted Hudson

Congratulations to
TED HUDSON
bowler of the week!

Ted shot 265-724 to take the top honors this week!

Other top bowlers include: Audrey Wright 198, Alice Hudson 188, Lynne Weir 202-553, Liz Pratt 278-628, Julie Lind 156, Brian Gawlowski 210, Josh Kendall 228-644, Jeff Lind 243-693, and Ed Troicke 267-629.

It was nice to have Liz Pratt's parents (Linda and Bill Pratt) there to watch her come out of the gate with 278!  Both Linda and Bill commented that it was nice to visit with old friends again, and I know the feeling was mutual. For those of you who may not know them, they bowled with Potbellies for many, many years.

Jeff Lind celebrated his birthday with BFF's Josh Kendall and Ed Troicke and team captain Jim Wedro as together they swept Ted's team despite his 724 series.

Many bowlers hit the 30 game mark placing them into their permanent division for the year.  If you have any questions regarding your division, please see me on Saturday night.

We have gotten the final OK for the Christmas Party to be celebrated on December 20th.  $5 per league bowler, $10 for guests, children under 12 will be free.  If you would like to bring sweet goodies, please see Lorrie McLaughlin, she is our coordinator for the goodies and the presents.  If you would like to participate in the gift exchange - please bring a gift that could be for guys or girls. Make sure to talk to Lorrie if you have any questions on that part.

Ed Troicke Takes Top Spot Again with 664!

Congratulations to ED TROICKE - our bowler of the week again. Ed shot 257-664 to take the top honors this week!

Other top bowlers include: Ted Hudson 227, Brian Gawlowski 199-557, Lorrie McLaughlin 170, Alice Hudson 190, Lynne Weir 189-534, Josh Kendall 218-602, and Liz Pratt 224-606.

Once again, Ed took the top spot of the night but he was just a few pins short of Jeff Lind who shot 255-668.  Jeff has decided to join us as of next week, so Ed will have yet another competitor to face and beat to keep his streak going!

Team standings took another move this week with Jack's team taking first place by one point over our "all-girl" Lynne's Team.  They swept Ken's Team to move into second place.  Even though Liz Pratt shot 606, Matt's Team moved into the third place spot after being swept by Jim Wedro's Team.

Make sure to click HERE to see the full standing sheets for week 9!

I am pleased to announce that we are once again a full 24-person league with the addition of Dean Heald, who filled Richard's place on Ted's Team and Jeff Lind who will be taking the last vacant spot on Jim Wedro's Team.  We welcome both of these bowlers to our league!

After bowling next week, many of you will be placed into your division for the rest of the season.  If you have any questions about your placement, please speak to me about it.

Not too much to report tonight so I look forward to seeing you next week!

700 series earns Ed Troicke the top spot!

Congratulations to ED TROICKE who earned Bowler-of-the-Week honors with 255-700!

Other top bowlers included ...

  • Brian Gawlowski 213
  • Jack Fitzpatrick 243
  • Kay Gawlowski 162
  • Liz Pratt 232-589
  • Matt Hoyt 234-648
  • Freddie Wedro 173
  • Ted Hudson 208-601
  • Lynne Weir 207-574
  • Josh Kendall 235-628
  • Rebecca Hoyt 190
  • Ken Comtois 234-607
There was no clowning around tonight as Ed and several of his fellow bowlers had some great scores!  And because of these scores, there was some movement in team placements after the first Position Round of the season! Matt's Team now sits above Jack's Team by one point.  Lynne's team sits comfortably in the third spot with Jim Wedro's Team and Ted's Team tied for fourth place.  Ken's Team still sits in the bottom spot, but surely should be able to move a place or two before the end of the first half.  You can view the standing sheets yourself by clicking HERE!

Unfortunately, Richard had to step down from his place on Ted's Team so that leaves us with two open spots again.  There is word that there are friends of Ted, Alice and Mary who are looking to join the league, so let's all say a quick prayer that we can fill these spots in the next few weeks.

Not much more to report tonight.  Hope you all have a safe Halloween!  See you next week!

Liz Pratt Earns Bowler of the Week with 713!

Congratulations to LIZ PRATT - our bowler of the week. Liz shot 267-713 to take the top honors this week!

What an achievement for Liz this week!! She was smooth to the line, relaxed and most definitely in the zone! We are so proud of her!

Other top bowlers this week include:

  • Josh Kendall 216-603
  • Jim Wedro 195-594
  • Freddie Wedro 160
  • Ted Hudson 224-623
  • Ken Comtois 201
  • Charlie Magee 198-526
  • Jack Fitzpatrick 245-654

Some sad news to report, Henry and Denise have decided that bowling this year isn't going to work for them, so they had to leave the league.  We hope that they will consider joining us again next fall.  Since both of them were on the same team, it left Jim Wedro and Josh with two openings.  Luckily, Ed Troicke has decided to join the league and will fill one of those openings. We would like to get a bowler into that last spot as quickly as possible, so please speak to family and friends about coming aboard and joining us for fun-filled Saturday evening bowling!

Coming up next week - our first position night.  Jack's team is just one point ahead of Matt's team so they will be bowling against each other again. Lynne's team faces off with Ted's team to solidify the third place tie and Ken's team will bowl Jim Wedro's team to finish out the last two spots.  Good luck to everyone! If you click HERE, you will see the full standing sheets for week #7!

That's all to report!  Have a great week and see you again on Saturday night!

  • Alice Hudson 193-522
  • and Lynne Weir 184

To find out your average and where your team stands, you can view the standing sheets by clicking HERE!

After six weeks of bowling, we are all starting to get used to the lane conditions and bowling in a new house.  We are beginning to see close, nail biter games and some total smatherings.

The first three places are separated by just one point over the other with the bottom three places struggling to get some wins.  Things will all start to even out after the first place round coming up in just two weeks!

There are also only four more weeks until many of us will be placed in a division.  As bowlers reach the 10 week mark (or 30 games), you will be put into a division that you will continue to compete for individual prizes like HIGH SCRATCH SINGLE, HIGH SCRATCH SERIES, and HIGH AVERAGE. There will be four (4) divisions this season as noted in an earlier post.

Team prizes will be awarded to the top three HIGH TEAM SCRATCH GAME and HIGH TEAM SCRATCH SERIES place holders.

Individual prizes and team prizes will based on the entire 32 week season. Team Placement prizes for first through sixth places will be awarded for both halves.

We will also award prize money for Most Improved Average (after 21 games) for both men and women.

Upcoming Birthday wishes to ... DENISE DEERFIELD on the 22nd!

Ted Hudson Locks In Bowler-of-the-Week with 672!

Congratulations to TED HUDSON, this week's top bowler!  Ted shot 236-672 to take the number one seat this week!

Other top bowlers: Henry Schindler 164, Josh Kendall 243, Audrey Wright 169, Kay Gawlowski 134, Liz Pratt 208, Matt Hoyt 258-628, Jim Weir 219, and Rebecca Hoyt 154-466.

We started the night with a short meeting about a couple of issues.  One being a reminder about being ready to bowl when it is your turn.  Whether it is due to chit chat, cell phone usage, smoking mid-game, and the like, we ask each of you to be mindful of the other players and be on time when it is your turn.

We also discussed the mid-season holiday party.  We decided that each bowler will contribute $5 to the party and the remainder of the cost will be covered by 50/50 dividends. A win-win situation all around. As always, guests will be welcome at the cost of $10 each.  We will also provide our own desserts (holiday sweets).  Lorrie McLaughlin will be passing a list around at the beginning of December if you will be bringing a goodie to share.

Now that we have a "solid" 24 bowlers, we have six 4-person teams.  Should we get new bowlers over the course of the first half, we will decide what will be the best for the league at that time.  It may involve adding teams or adding to the current teams.

If you ever have any questions about anything that is brought up here or during league play, please feel free to speak with any of the officers.  They are... President - Jack Fitzpatrick, Vice President - Ken Comtois, Treasurer - Jim Weir, Secretary - Julie Lind, and Sargent at Arms - Audrey Wright.  Remember, we are always here to help!

See you next week!

Josh Kendall Claims Bowler of the Week Kudos!

Congratulations to our most recent
Bowler of the Week
Josh Kendall!

Josh shot 245-626 to grab the top honors!

Other bowlers top bowlers are ..

  • Lynne Weir..............................175-508
  • Alice Hudson............................175-510
  • Jim Weir..................................200
  • Mary Magee..............................136
  • Ted Hudson..............................222-600
  • Charlie Magee...........................195
  • Kay Gawlowski..........................158
  • Liz Pratt...................................237-599
  • Matt Hoyt.................................223-594
  • Jim Wedro................................201

We are all starting to read the lane conditions a little better and making good adjustments so I predict that the scores will slowly and surely begin to rise. Jeff Lind and Ed Troicke are still pacing with the league and hopefully we will be able to add them to the roster soon.

Coming up this Saturday we will be having a quick meeting about the Christmas Party.  I know it seems early, but we would rather have set plans than get all caught off guard and crazily make plans.

There has been some chatter on the lanes about how long it is taking some teams to complete three games within a reasonable amount of time.  We will be taking suggestions about how we can alleviate these late finish times at this meeting as well.

We are seeing a great response to the 50/50 this year averaging between $15 and $20 per week in extra sales causing this "pot" to pay out some really nice dividends.  We hope you will continue to support this mini-fundraiser (and take a chance at winning some extra cash) so we will be able to use it for special occasions during the season as well as add some extra dollars to the end of the season prize fund.

Also, most of you are being good about paying a quarter for each open 5th frame.  The money we collect from this "penalty" also goes into our prize fund. So please remember, if you miss in the fifth frame - please pay your quarter!

That's all for this week.  Sorry I posted so late this week.  I was so bushed on Saturday night after my stellar bowling (314, lol) that I set it aside and didn't remember to get all this good info on line!!  See you on Saturday!!

      Kay and Brian Gawlowski
Liz Pratt and Richard McElreath

Next week, we will introduce some of the other new bowlers to you!  Make sure to welcome all those who have joined us and introduce yourselves!

Lorrie has volunteered to coordinate the Christmas Party/Gift Giving event to be held on December 20th.  We ask that each family/individual volunteer to bring in a holiday treat to share.  Julie has the sign-up sheet if you know already what you would like to bring. Also we will be having a Christmas grab bag for the bowlers this year!  All you have to do is bring a "gender neutral" gift to share ($10 limit please)!  If you bring a gift, you get a gift.  Participation is not mandatory, but it can be a lot of fun!!

We could still use a couple of more bowlers to fill out the league.  If you have any friends or family that you think would like bowling with us, have them come and join us!

The sheets are posted.  You can view them by clicking HERE!

Week 3 - Jim Wedro Takes Top Honors

Congratulations to JIM WEDRO our Bowler-of-the-Week!  Jim shot 212-620 to take the top honors this week!!

Other top bowlers include: Jacquie Shoen 178-495, Josh Kendall 239-603, Brian Gawlowski 186, Keith Shoen 178, Jack Fitzpatrick 242, Ted Hudson 215-616, Lynne Weir 208, Bruce Ottmer 160, Ken Comtois 202 and Matt Hoyt 201.

You can view the full weekly standing sheet by clicking HERE.

The lanes seemed to be good for many of the bowlers this week!  It seems as though we are all making some good adjustments to these lane conditions and I bet we will see better scores this season.

THANK YOU to everyone for getting your sanction applications filled out and returned to me and for paying up.  We will be turning in our application this week so remember to check your mail frequently for your new card.

There seemed to be a bit of confusion regarding your dues envelopes.  This is an explanation of how your envelopes are being marked ...

WEEK 1 - $34.00 due *$17 for bowling $17 for sanction
WEEK 2 - $34.00 due *$17 each for the last two weeks of bowling
WEEK 3 - $34.00 due *$17 for bowling week 2 & $17 for bowling week 3
WEEKS 4 to 30 - $17.00 due *$17 for each week

The only exception to this will be for those who have sanctioned in another Albany Association league.

If you have any questions or do not understand how we have done this, please speak to Jim Weir.

Once you have completed 9 games, your current average will be used for handicap purposes.  Once you reach 21 completed games, that will be the average used for "Most Improved" bowler prize money.

Since we have 26 bowlers this year, we will be breaking out into 4 divisions to be used for individual prize money.  Based on your average at the end of 30 completed games (typically 10 weeks into the season) you will be placed in your division. Once you have been placed in a division, you will remain there for the rest of the season no matter how your average changes.  There will be prizes for High Average, High Series and High Game in each division.  The divisions will be set as follows:

Division A - averages 180 to 300
Division B - averages 160 to 179
Division C - averages 133 to 159
Division D - averages 0 to 132

If you have any questions about the divisions, please speak to Julie.

First Week a Success!

Turning 50 is an accomplishment - but becoming the Bowler of the Week after you turn 50 is stellar!

Congratulations to TED HUDSON for being this week's top bowler.  Ted shot 233-643 to earn this honor!

The rest of us didn't do all that bad considering some of us haven't even picked up a ball since the end of last season!  Hopefully we will start to post really nice scores in the next few weeks!

At the meeting before we started, Jim spoke to all of us about some things we need to keep in mind this season.  First being our envelopes.  As it has always been, you need to keep your envelope current.  If you get three weeks or more behind at any time during the season, you will not be able to participate in the jackpots that we offer until your envelope is current again.

This year, the pins over jackpot will be $3.00 per night with the person bowling the highest over their average winning that game.  This is run by treasurer Jim Weir.

Ted runs the strike jackpot.  The cost for this is $2.00 per game or $6.00 for the night.  You choose the number of cards by the number of strikes you have in each game.  Best poker hand will win the jackpot for the game. Participation in these jackpot games is optional!

Next, we talked about sanctions.  Now that we are in the Albany USBC Association, our sanction dues are $17.00.  We are asking that you neatly fill out your sanction application cards by Saturday, September 13th and return them to Julie.  You have until the last week of October to have your sanction fee paid.  Most folks got their sanction paid on the first week, which is awesome.

Please be mindful when you take smoke breaks.  Traveling to the smoking areas outside of the bowling center takes a bit longer than at Green Island, so please, if you are going to smoke, make sure you don't make your team or your opponents have to wait excessively for you to finish smoking.  We are trying to make sure that we are finished with the third game by 9:30 p.m. at the latest so we ask that you are prompt getting to the approach when it's your turn.

Another way that we can be sure that we get out on time is to make sure that cell phone use is limited during the games.  Please keep calls short and keep your phones behind the settee area.

We will continue to follow the two-lane courtesy rule when bowling.  Please look both ways when you are up so that you don't find yourself "running up" on the player to your left or right.

We want to welcome our new bowlers and those who have returned after at least a year off.  Introduce yourselves and help all feel comfortable!  Our newest Potbellies are ...
  • Keith and Jacquie Shoen
  • Brian and Kay Gawlowski
  • Bruce Ottmer
  • Richard McElreath

Ted did have the opportunity to announce "channel" shots on the first night. For all our newest bowlers, that means if you dump it in the gutter, you will be called out.  Don't take it as an insult, have fun with it!!

Pre-bowling will be allowed if you know you will be unable to attend during a regular bowling session.  You must contact your team captain or a league officer to come and watch/verify your scores.  Please let us know if you will be pre-bowling.  You will still be responsible for your regular dues.

I know this is long, but we don't want you to miss anything important!

This will be a fun way to keep in touch with you all.  I will post a direct link on Facebook by Sunday of each week.

Welcome Back Everyone!

This year we currently have 25 members on our roster and we would like to continue to build our league! If you know of anyone else who would like to join us, please let us know as soon as possible.

There will be a league meeting at 6:15 p.m. on that first night for some reminders and to introduce our new members.  Following that, Let the games begin!

As always, I will try to post weekly results by Sunday, so please bookmark this site and check just how you and your team did.  I will also post in Facebook the direct link to the page.  You are also welcome to post comments on the page.
